Contour Without Surgery

Juvéderm Voluma is a volumizing non-surgical dermal filler. Zenn Plastic Surgery’s Advanced Nurse Injector Tara Cypher, RN, MSN, CANS, injects Voluma™ to lift and contour your cheeks, chin, and other areas of your face. This dermal filler contains a modified form of hyaluronic acid (HA). This acid naturally exists within every cell of your body, particularly in your skin. This FDA-approved product works well for specific areas of your face by itself or with other treatments such as BOTOX®, Vollure™, and Volbella™ to improve your overall appearance. Many seek Voluma as an alternative to plastic surgery procedures such as facial implants.

Why Use Voluma?

As part of the natural aging process, your skin loses collagen. This loss of structure and volume causes the skin to sag. The fatty pads of your face, like those in your cheeks and chin, become hollow and less prominent. This creates a drooping appearance in your soft tissues, adding to the development of folds and wrinkles in your face.

Other causes of wrinkles include sun exposure, cigarette smoking, relaxation of dermal collagen and elastin, hyper-dynamic facial muscles, and expression. When you experience lost volume or flattening in your cheeks, whether from aging, a medical condition, or weight loss, Voluma can plump the area and provide a more youthful appearance. Voluma is the first FDA-approved for age-related volume loss in the cheeks, chin, and cheekbones.

Find The Right Option For You

At Zenn Plastic Surgery in Raleigh, North Carolina, Master Injector Tara Cypher, RN, MSN, CANS, provides facial filler treatments using the following products in addition to Voluma:

How Do I Prepare For My Treatment?

Before treatment, Tara conducts an in-depth one-on-one consultation to discuss your appearance goals, as well as examine your face and medical history. With this information, Tara crafts a tailored beauty plan to meet your aesthetic needs. Your treatment only requires one office visit.

Does Treatment Hurt?

You do not need to worry about pain when receiving this treatment. The filler contains lidocaine that anesthetizes as you receive your injections. In some cases, Tara administers a topical numbing agent to further ease any discomfort. However, most patients do not require more than the filler’s own numbing properties.

What Kind Of Results Can I Expect?

Expect to enjoy natural-looking, youthful results immediately following your procedure. You will gain facial volume and smooth lines around your nose and mouth. Your face will appear softer and more supple. Voluma differs from other products within the Juvéderm family because it is injected more deeply into the skin, often to the bone. Other fillers are only injected into the sub-dermal and deep dermis layers. For this reason, Voluma results can last up to two years.

What Is Recovery Like?

After your Voluma treatment, you should not wear makeup for 12 hours. It is also important to avoid the sun, sun beds, saunas, or steam rooms for as long as two weeks. Do not put pressure on your treated area for a week, including through additional treatments or activities like receiving a massage face-down on a massage table.

Although the use of Voluma is FDA-approved and safe, you may experience side effects as with any medical procedure. The potential side effects include temporary injection-site redness, tenderness, pain, firmness, lumps, bumps, swelling, itching, bruising, and discoloration. These effects usually remain mild to moderate and do not last long.

Contraindications Of Voluma Use

If you are allergic to lidocaine or proteins in HA, this non-surgical treatment is not for you. Be sure to tell Tara if you are pregnant, nursing, or have suffered scarring or pigmentation conditions in the past. Advise her of all medications you take, especially those affecting your immune system or any that may cause bleeding.
